I know that can be frightening to be diagnosed with an ovarian cyst, but please know they are very common and are usually benign (non-cancerous).
Your doctor will tell you what the "next steps" are, as it depends not only on the size of the cyst, but also on the location and any other conditions you may have, as well as your individual and family health history.

One common approach is called "wait and see", if your doctor does not think you require treatment at this time (some cysts go away on their own, or after taking hormonal contraceptives), then this approach makes sense to see if any medical intervention is necessary. Many times, no treatment is necessary.
