I have had a cyst for 20 years. It busted when I was 14 after horseback riding. Have had scoliosis and other back problems Since teenage years. It has only abscessed/drained once so far. No surgery. Daily cleaning and healed up on its own. It has been bothering me a lot lately. I am wondering if mine was congenital since I am also a woman, not hairy. I am considered overweight and was obese when this happened. However, I don't see how an infected hair follicle could last for 20 years without more draining abscesses. Surgical consult at the time just said conservative treatment first. Which was done. Have had pain off and on over the years especially during menstrual cycle. You can feel it at the base of my tail bone a lump the size of a ping pong ball
