Stress can have a profound effect on your menstrual cycle. So that may be what is going on. But have you seen a gynecologist? If you haven't, I suggest you do. You can discuss birth control if you like, and you can get a baseline exam to see that everything is normal and that the irregular periods are normal for you and not a sign of a problem such as PCOS or something.
