Have you seen a gynecologist since you went off the pill? Have you had blood tests to check your hormones? Do you have any other medical issues?
There are multiple problems that can cause menstrual issues. It would be a good idea to have a thorough gynecological workup to see what is going on with you. This would include a physical exam, Pap test, blood work, and a good medical history at a minimum.
The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has some patient education pamphlets that may help you: Dysmenorrhea http://www.acog.org/publications/patient_education/bp046.cfm, and Abnormal Uterine Bleeding http://www.acog.org/publications/patient_education/bp095.cfm.
Please get a full workup and if we can help further, let us know. Thank you for writing and good luck.
