Hi burkes76,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER. Since you son is currently under the care of a physician for this alleged infection, you may want to call their office to explain your concern. If you want, ask to be referred to a dermatologist, or just ask the doctor for more information about what to expect and when you should raise more concern if the growth doesn't seem to be responding to treatment. Or, if your insurance allows, just schedule an appointment with a dermatologist in your area to get it checked out further. As a mother, I know how anything related to your child's head can be super scary. You are doing good to advocate for your son's health. And from what I've read online about what you describe, everything says to seek medical care from a doctor. Conditions diagnosed range from mastoiditis, infected lymph nodes, ear infection, folliculitis, etc.
Good luck, and let us know what you find out.
