You are definitely on the fore-front of new medical technology!
Permanent contact lenses (called lens implants) has just been recently approved, and the information I could locate mentioned that there were two companies/products gaining FDA approval in 2004.
Due to the rarity and newness of this procedure, I have not found any information on the side effects of removing the lenses. You may need to ask your doctor for written literature on any clinical findings regarding the pros/cons of removal.
Please let us know what information you find! What was the exact type of procedure done and product used? That may help in my research.
