Taylorr,
You are right to want some more answers, and I'm glad you are getting tests to rule out possible conditions.

I am surprised that your doctor is telling you to continue using hormonal contraception, since you are still bleeding...and not suggest that perhaps you take out your Nuvaring, and yes...you will not be protected from pregnancy, but there are OTHER ways to protect yourself from pregnancy!

It does not sound like Nuvaring is the culprit, and is why you are not being suggested to stop using it. We are not sure what is causing the abnormal bleeding, but 17 days is a long time to experience bleeding. Here are a few suggestions:
- If you are worried about Nuvaring (or the hormones) causing the bleeding, talk with your doctor again about stopping hormonal birth control for the next few months, and you MUST use a condom if you choose to have sex. Most of the time, hormonal contraception is prescribed for abnormal bleeding to regulate your period, so it is best to talk with your doctor if you choose to do this.
- Have you had blood tests conducted, to check hormone levels?
- Since you are still bleeding, what has your doctor suggested as the next steps? Your doctor, I'm hoping, did not just "give up" at a few tests, ruling out some conditions, and just shrug if off. Perhaps s/he did since you were told this is "normal". You might not have a serious medical condition...but you are right to want answers and to know what IS going on. What did your doctor tell you as being the next round of tests? I'm surprised no blood tests were suggested
- You can ALWAYS get a second opinion, too! It would actually be recommended, as I'm not sure if you are anemic, dehydrated, or if something is going on with your hormones....but you want to get all of this checked out.

If you take away your concerns about the nuvaring being the culprit, your symptoms are:
- fatigue, extreme exhaustion
- hunger
- abnormal bleeding

Please make an appointment with another doctor, or at least talk with your doctor about needing blood tests to check for hormone levels, thyroid, anemia, etc.
