Hi Janelle,
Thank you for responding. Having irregular periods at this age is not uncommon. Your diet could certainly cause some of the irregularity. If your body has any changes, this may cause irregularity to your periods as I explained. Our bodies are very picky.

It appears that your decision to not try birth control is over a situation with your friend. Go to your physician and talk about your options to try and maintain a regular cycle. I would also mention your eating habits as I think this would certainly cause issues. Maintaining a healthy weight will be important to structure your period.

Your physician will also explain to you that this is very common for teenagers and young adults. From my personal experience, I also had periods perhaps 2 to 3 times a year in my teenage years. I went on birth control pills for about 2 to 3 years and then stopped and still maintain a regular period now into my 30s.

After you go and talk to your physician, come back and tell us what decision you made regarding what he/she tells you. Keep us posted.

I hope this helps,
Missie
