If you and your husband have not had sex when you were first married, I'm curious how long you have been married?

There are many ways you can prevent pregnancy, but please know there is no 100% guaranteed way to "avoid" pregnancy when having sex. There are many, many options you have that are 99% effective at preventing pregnancy, and the option you choose depends on many factors. I will provide some resources that you can review to determine the best form of birth control for you at this time.

The birth control methods that are most effective include hormonal contraceptives, including the combination birth control pill that you mentioned. You must take the pill every night at the same hour for it to be effective. If you do not want to remember to use birth control every night, there are other methods that you only need to remember once per week (vaginal ring), or once every three months (injection called Depo Provera).

Here are some articles to help you get started, and you should also speak with your doctor about birth control options (the two I mentioned above require a prescription from a doctor):

- Choosing the Birth Control that is Right for You

- Which method of birth control is right for you?

In the meantime, if you and your husband have sex and do not want to be pregnant, you can use condoms! They are up to 98% effective at preventing pregnancy when used consistently and correctly-- please be sure to read the instructions and practice with them a few times before having sex!

Please let us know if you have any additional questions, after reading the above information and links.
