You can increase this timeframe by having sex often up to the days you think you are going to ovulate, as sperm can live inside your body for up to 3-5 days, and it is best for the sperm to be "waiting" for the egg to be released (ovulation).
Lastly, most women ovulate about 2 weeks before their period, but ovulation can occur as early as "day 7" in your cycle, or as late as "day 21" in your cycle (counting "day 1" as the first day of bleeding).
