You are referring to Type 2 diabetes, which is sometimes a result of poor diet. I think "proven" is a strong word; diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2) is a disease that affects more than 8% of the US population (http://www.diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/statistics/), and it is unlikely this prevalence would be so high if a "cure" was truly proven. However, it is wonderful to see evidence that there are preventative measures a person can take that might help her avoid the onset of Type 2 diabetes.
