Hi djaglin,
Thank you for your question and for joining EmpowHER. Pneumonia is typically caused by either a bacteria, virus, fungus or parasites. A virus causing pneumonia would be contagious, but other forms would only be contracted by exposure to those elements, according to my understanding from what I've read. It is always a good idea to practice excellent hygiene around a person with pneumonia, or exposed to pneumonia. Borderline pneumonia may mean that you don't have pneumonia now, but an infection could progress to your lungs. You may have fluid or irritation in your lungs. You may want to clarify this with your doctor to avoid confusion, as we are not doctors and cannot diagnose you. The time to heal from a pneumonia infection depends on the type, severity, and if you have other risk factors. It may take 6 weeks or more for an infection to clear and residual lung effects may persist longer.
