Hi theskyisyours,
Welcome to Empowher and thank you for your question. It certainly appears that you have an sudden acute form of anxiety that started from your fear from flying. It is pretty common to continue to get anxiety attacks after you experience it once. I have also had issues with this as well. BUT...the good news is you can do many different things to try and control the anxiety rather than taking prescribed medications.

A suggestion would be to keep the medications for BAD times when you cannot control the racing heart etc. I know that when it happens to me, it almost feels like I am having a heart attack or that I cannot breath. Two big things that I do is take several deep breaths and let the breaths out slowly...after about 10 minutes, I calm down. Another thing that you can start is doing Yoga which is very calming and will help teach you HOW to take deep breaths.

Reducing stress is another way to reduce the effects from the anxiety attacks. I hope these suggestions help you as well but keep your doctor in the loop as to what you are doing so he/she can keep record of your diagnosis. Please check out our Group help area here also https://www.empowher.com/groups/anxiety-group.

Keep us posted.
