Hi,
Your story is interesting. According to the CDC, trichomoniasis can often has no symptoms, but women are more likely than men to get symptoms. The symptoms include a frothy, yellow-green vaginal discharge with a strong odor. The infection also may cause discomfort during intercourse and urination, as well as irritation and itching of the female genital area. In rare cases, lower abdominal pain can occur. Symptoms usually appear in women within 5 to 28 days of exposure. In women who are infected In women, a pelvic examination can reveal small red ulcerations (sores) on the vaginal wall or cervix. As you have learned, a pap smear may also diagnose the infection.
It would be hard to believe that you have had trichomoniasis for 7 years. The sores on the vaginal wall would have been detected during pelvic exams. It is most likely that the infection is recent and both you and your boyfriend need to get treatment.
