I am sorry you are going through this! Honestly, your diagnosis of HPV should be expected, and I am surprised that your GYN did not tell you that you will most likely have HPV in your lifetime. And...it's not just you! More than 80% of sexually active women have HPV...really! It is that contagious, and for women diagnosed with a sexually transmitted disease already, that statistic increases. It is nothing to be ashamed of, and it's great that it is caught early.

A colposcopy is a very common procedure, and one that many women experience. It is similar to a Pap Smear where a speculum is inserted into your vagina, however this instrument has a light and the exam takes a little longer (especially if a biopsy is taken, which is described as the feeling of a pinch).
