If you are not sure if your period started or not, of if it was supposed to start at the beginning of the month and did not, you can take a home pregnancy test to rule out the possibility of pregnancy.
As Rosa asked, did you have unprotected sex since your last period? If yes, you have the possibility of pregnancy. If you did not have unprotected sex since your last period, you would have no chance of pregnancy (there are other reasons for a late or missed period).
Keep track on a calendar when your period begins each time, as a generic "beginning of the month" is not helpful when you are trying to determine if your period is late or not (August 7th is still considered "beginning of the month", for instance, but you are worried your period has not started).
