Is there a reason why you are not under the care of an obstetrician? The decision to choose the care of a midwife versus a physician should be based on several factors. These include your age, medical history and whether or not yours is a high-risk pregnancy. You are absolutely correct, in the event of an emergency during labor and delivery, a midwife is limited and needs the expertise of an obstetrician. Are you planning to delivery your baby in a hospital? Will there be an obstetrician available in case of an emergency?
