Thank you for your question! If you have been previously diagnosed with HPV, then you may have also been infected in the oral area. The difference is that many times symptoms in the oral area are non-existent. Having lesions in the back of your mouth are a good reason to see your gynecologist.

In regard to your cancer question, there are different types of HPV strains--some which are more cancer-producing than others, the low-risk strain which you have been diagnosed with will usually not cause cancer but it never hurts to remain up to date with your paps and gynecological appointments.
