Any brand is fine. Discharge is normal as long as it isn't foul smelling, green, or with a cottage cheese appearance. If any of those symptoms sound familiar you want to schedule an appointment with your doctor.
Since you got a negative result, please give it another week. Try not to stress out and wait for your period to come on its own.
