Issues with mental focus, lack of concentration, and mood swings

I think I am suffering from peri-menopausal related hormonal changes. For over a year I literally have days when I cannot put a proper thought/sentence together, I am completely unfocused, and feel lathargic and generally "off". This is starting to occur weeks in advance of my menstrual flow-and seems to be present for several days into the flow. I am in an executive position and I have suffered in my confidence levels as I just don't seem to have the mental sharpness I have always had. I've seen my gyn and they just keep pushing BCP to help with all of my symptoms. I have mild hypothyroidism-well controlled for years on .025 mcg of Synthroid (labs every 6 mos are wnl). I'm so frustrated and concerned that I cannot continue in my current position if I can't get this issue resolved. I guess I'm wondering if there are specific tests I should push my gyn to run or if I should just see an MD that specializes in hormones outside of my HMO (Kaiser).
