Yeast + Bacterial Infection in the vagina

Hi,
I have a question regarding the vaginal infection. How do I control further growth of the bacteria. I met with a nurse practitioner who has diagonsed me with a bacterial (Not related to sexual) infection. While I have begun taking the antibiotics, I want to know if there are any other tips I could have to manage and alleviate the uneasy discomfort and flaming pain I am having as part of the symptoms? Thanks :)
