Regular physical exercise can help with osteoporosis. According to the Mayo Clinic, the following types of physical activity are recommended for people with osteoporosis:
Strength training exercises, especially those for the back
Weight-bearing aerobic activities
Flexibility exercises
Stability and balance exercises
Ask your physician or physical therapist which of these exercises are appropriate for you. Your physical therapist may have suggestions for exercises which you can do at home.
It is important that you get enough calcium and vitamin D. Calcium and vitamin D can be found in foods and of course in a daily multivitamin or supplement.
The daily recommended allowance for calcium for a 50 year old woman is 1000mg and 15 mcg for vitamin D.
