Hi Melissa,

The link between iodine and hypothyroidism is that Iodine deficiency can cause hypothyroidism. Your doctor may not be concerned about your iodine levels because you do not have hypothyroidism. The iodine skin-test is not a reliable test and is not a good marker to test for iodine deficiency--there are also no reliable medical tests for it. A good and reliable test would be testing your thyroid levels, which your doctor has already done. 

Your body does not produce idodine, therefore it relies solely on your diet. Here are some foods that you can add to your diet if, for whatever reason, you suspect iodine deficiency: 

the use of Iodized table salt 

breads

cheese

yogurt

saltwater fish

cow's milk

eggs

ice cream

soy milk

soy sauce
