Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

hello there my bf and I had unprotected sex, 48hrs after my ovulation. Oct10 ovulation day, and we had sex Oct 11 few minutes to Oct12. I took 4
pills of levosnorgestrel 14hrs after the deed and another 4 pills after 12hrs of my first dose. Is it still effective even I took it 48hrs after ovulation?

Hello, Anon.

Emergency contraceptives are up to 95% effective when taken as prescribed within the first 24 hours and up to 90% effective when taken within 72 hours. It works by preventing ovulation and stopping a pregnancy from starting. It will not end a pregnancy already in place. They should be taken for emergencies, not used as a regular method of birth control.

Why have you taken 8 pills? The dosing for levonorgestrel 1.5mg tablets is one tablet should be taken as soon as possible, preferably within 12 hours, and no later than 72 hours after unprotected intercourse. For the two pill dosing, a second pill is taken 12 hours after the first, but both can also be taken at one time. 8 pills should not have been taken.

If your period is late or missed, you will need to test for pregnancy.

Hi. I just want a clarification. I had withdrawal bleeding 5 days after my 2nd dose (july 19). I'm supposed to be getting my actual period now or maybe the next days right? Is there any case, that you know of, that someone got pregnant even though she had withdrawal bleeding?

Hello Anon

We cannot predict when you next period will come. You're not pregnant but the next period can be early or late - this is a side effect of taking emergency contraception. You'll need to be patient.

Susan

Hi.
I had an unprotected sex with my bf last April 11 this year. He ejaculated outside my vjayjay. On our 2nd round (lol) he said that he ejaculated inside me but just a minimal. The said it will not get me pregnant. Then ob the 15th, we had another unprotected sex. He then said he came inside me.. again, minimal. It freaked me out and made me feel uneasy. The next morning, i took Lady Pills as an ECP. (It was 3hours before the 120hours due to take an ECP, from the 1st day we had the deed, April 11). As of this moment (3 days after taking the pill as ecp) i have not feeling any side effect of this pills. Waiting for my withdrawal bleeding (hopefully it come). My question is, do you think this'll get me pregnant? I know this is a stupid question but i still want to know your opinion as for the moment. Thank you so much

Hello Anon
ECP is up to 95% effective so your risk is low. I'm not sure why your boyfriend is telling you he won't get you pregnant! Men have been doing this for centuries, in order to have unprotected sex and for some reason, some women believe them. Then many end up pregnant. In your case, because you took the pills, your risk is very low.

"Minimal" ejaculation is like being "half" pregnant - it's not possible.
