Yes, swollen glands and thyroid nodules can be benign. A VERY HIGH percentage of them are not cancerous. If it is an infection the antibiotic will probably help. If the swollen nodule does not go down, see your doctor again and they may want to do a fine needle biopsy and do blood work to check the function of the thyroid gland.
