Hello Doshia,
My answer to your question, what is the maximum dosage of Paxil allowed, is based on information obtained from the website, RxList.com. I am not a physician. I suggest you discuss your concerns about the prescribed dosage with your physician.

According to RxList. com, the recommended initial dose of Paxil to treat major depressive disorder is 20 mg/day. Some patients not responding to a 20 mg dose may benefit from dose increase, in 19 mg/day increments, up to a maximum of 50 mg/day.

Generally, acute episodes of major depressive disorder require several months or longer of sustained therapy. It is unclear if the dose needed to induce remission is identical to the dose needed to maintain and/or sustain a normal mood.

Again, I suggest you ask your physician why you are prescribed such a high dose.

Good Health,

Maryann
