Hello rcoukoul,
A family history of cancer can increase your risk of breast cancer. This increased risk may be due to genetics, (inherited genes of which you cannot change), shared lifestyle factors, (which you can change) and other family traits. Interestingly, only about 13 percent of women diagnosed with breast cancer have an immediate female relative, (mother, sister or daughter) with breast cancer.

There are lifestyle changes that you can make to reduce your risk.
1) Limit alcohol intake to no more than one drink a day

2) Don't smoke. There appears to be a link between smoking and breast cancer risk, particularly in premenopausal women.

3) Control your weight. Being overweight or obese increases your risk.

4) Be physically active- at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic weekly plus strength training at least twice a week.
