BPA has always been utilized to make the main adhesive components of dental composite and dental sealants. These components sre called Bis-GMA, and Bis- DMA. The chemical breakdown of Bis-GMA and Bis-DMA in saliva includes BPA. Once the sealant is light cured and hardened the release is largely decreased. The ph level of the saliva also plays a role. The release amount of BPA has been the main topic of research in this area. Apparently, the level must be higher than the acceptable amount to be dangerous. There have also been extensive study as to what this amount is. Apparently, the biggest BPA effects are during early development, on babies, using baby bottles with BPA.
Almost all plastics will release BPA, 93% of Americanc test positive for BPA in their urine. Think about all of the plastic containers of water we have consumed and given to our children.
