Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Pelvic organ prolapse is most often the result of tissue damage resulting from labor and childbirth. Although you may not be able to completely prevent the damage caused by childbearing, there are ways to control the progression of the weakness and prolapse.

Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight for your height is one way. Doing Kegel exercises, which are pelvic strengthening exercises, each day helps strengthen the muscles of the pelvic floor.

Quit smoking. The chronic cough associated with smoking can actually cause or speed up pelvic organ prolapse. Avoid heavy lifting. Correct constipation because the straining weakens and damages the connective tissue and muscles in the pelvis.
