Hello Anonymous,

You are asking if this child has post- traumatic stress disorder. Is that correct?

Post-traumatic stress disorder is a mental health condition that is triggered by a terrifying event. Symptoms may include flashbacks, nightmares and severe anxiety, as well as uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

The symptoms are generally grouped into three types: intrusive memories, like flashbacks or upsetting dreams, avoidance and emotional numbing, like trouble concentrating or difficulty maintaining close relationships, and increased anxiety or emotional arousal, such as being easily startled or frightened.

If this child behaves differently when he is in your home in comparison to when he is in his own home, maybe the issue is related to something or someone in his home.

This is a delicate situation which may be difficult for you to approach with the child's mother. You might casually mention the child's different behavior while in your home. For example, " Oh Mary, Johnny seemed to really enjoy his play date at my house yesterday. We should do it again."
