Q:

Is it normal to have menstrual cramps at other times?

Lately I've been getting more cramps and little aches than usual, in my lower area. Sometimes they feel like normal menstrual cramps, and other times they are just like aches, not sharp, but annoying. They are not severely painful at all. In fact, I've rarely ever had "severe" cramps.
My boyfriend and I do have sex quite often, but I'm on the pill (have been for 6 months now) and I've been keeping up on them very well. I've only been late on them twice before, a few months ago, and I did not get pregnant from it. My periods have evened out nicely, the past several months they have been exactly 28 days - once or twice they have been either 27 or 29. I am 19 years old. My next period should come May 9th, another 10 days.

MQ: Is it normal to experience these cramps and aches when it's not around period-time? What could be going on with me?

Hi devilcupcakes,
many women have some form of discomfort during this period but having excruciating pains is generally a symptom of something serious.
In my case, it was because of endometriosis. I agree with Susan Cody, it's best to contact the doctor for further investigation.
Wish you the best,
Susie
