Hi Anon,

Thanks for sharing your question on EmpowHER! Sorry if you are experiencing glute muscle pain as it can be painful and uncomfortable.

A variety of factors can make your glute muscles hurt. Some common causes of glute pain include sitting for a long period of time (this can put added pressure on your glute muscles), pulling a muscle while working out, injuring a glute muscle while working out due to not stretching correctly.

According to HealthGrades, some more serious issues that can cause glute pain include bone fractures in the hip or tailbone region, glute muscle cramps, tendinitis, hemorrhoids, hip arthritis, anal abscess, fibromyalgia, and anal fissures.

However, these are a wide variety of causes, so the best way to know is by visiting your doctor and getting a thorough exam to determine the cause of you glute muscles pain.

Do you work out often or do you remember making a movement that caused pain in your glute muscle? Oftentimes that is the most common cause of glute muscle pain. If it is a muscle strain, stretching your glute muscle can help. However, start slowly when stretching. Ease into your stretches and hold them for about 10 seconds. Be sure to stop as soon as you feel pain. Applying an ice pack for about 15-20 minutes to your area of pain can also help.

Hope this helped and please let me know if you have more questions!

Best,

Erin
