Hi saradietz,

I couldn't believe these recipes are all vegan either! I can't wait to try some of them out, especially the mac-n-cheese!

Nutritional yeast is a type of deactivated yeast. Since it's not activated, it doesn't grow like regular yeast does. Nutritional yeast has a yellow color and has a cheesy flavor. It is high in Vitamin B-12, which helps with the formation of blood as well as function of the brain and nervous system. Nutritional yeast is a popular ingredient for many vegans because it can add more flavor to dishes, is packed with nutrition, and is low-fat with no added preservatives.

Nutritional yeast is more common in specialty health grocery stores like Whole Food's or Sprout's, but it can also be found in some local stores. Bob's Red Mill is a popular brand for nutritional yeast. It can also be bought in bulk.
