Hi thedivah,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your story with EmpowHER! I am so sorry to hear about the situation with your brother. It can be very difficult to deal with situations where your family member is hurt, especially when you do not know all of the details surrounding it.

At this time, it is important to offer your brother support, but it is also important that you have loved ones or friends supporting you at the same time. I would suggest talking to one of your family members about the situation.

Express that you are concerned about what may have caused the accident. It is important to talk about the situation with a loved one so all of the burden and worry does not fall on you.

Are you and your brother very close? Let him know that you are there to help and support him. Because brain injury is serious, be sure to keep an eye out for symptoms like complaining randomly about a stiff neck, severe headaches, sudden drowsiness, continual vomiting and losing consciousness. These symptoms can be very serious and would require medical attention.

Here is a great article on EmpowHER that talks about what to do when a loved one has a head injury: https://www.empowher.com/anoxic-brain-injury/content/what-should-you-do-if-loved-one-sustains-head-injury.

I hope this has helped! Please keep me updated and let me know if you have further questions.

Best,
Erin
