Hi Anon,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! There can be several causes behind your anger.

Do you notice if there are certain situations that make you more angry than others? Or are you angry constantly?

It is a normal emotion to experience anger, but it can become very frustrating and unhealthy when you feel angry all the time. For some people it can be much more difficult to turn your anger off and can be signs of an anger issue.

Here are some tips to handle your anger:

  • When you feel yourself becoming angry and feel anger creeping up, start taking deep breaths. Count to ten slowly with deep breaths, then start again. Close your eyes if you need to and relax your muscles.
  • Try meditating. Meditating can help you take control of your mind and learn to control your emotions. One good option is the mobile app Headspace.
  • Take notice of what situations and characteristics make you the angriest. Then come up with ways to better handle those situations. When you can tell when anger is about to come on, you can take better control of it.
  • Set a goal to become less angry rather than get rid of your anger completely. Learn skills to help handle your anger.

If you are still having trouble controlling your anger, it may be a good idea to get professional help through a psychiatrist or anger management classes.

I hope this helped! Please let me know if you have further questions.

Best,
Erin
