Hi Dr. Marcantel and thank you for another great Share!

I've been fortunate to have a holistic physician for the past 15 years who has always focused on me as an individual, and, as you describe, treats both symptoms and root causes. Basically his focus is on wellness, not illness.

The value of this approach really became clear when I was diagnosed with leukemia five years ago. My primary physician has been my rock, supporting me with multiple issues, some of which were from having cancer and being in treatment, and some that were unrelated. My oncologist was mainly focused on my blood counts and monitoring treatment. By having both I have been able to stay well and live well, even with leukemia.

It frustrates me when I see fellow cancer patients who expect their oncologist to support them with every aspect of their health. As specialists, they are well trained to support their areas of expertise, and often lack the time and even the training to address unrelated areas. An individual with a serious illness needs a team of people they can rely on, and is one of those people is a holistic health practitioner they will be much better off...and most likely, much healthier.

Do you agree? Let me know your thoughts.

Best,

Pat
