Hi audeliavanderwoodsen and welcome to EmpowHER

Sperm outside the body remains active for about an hour, and your boyfriend's behavior was risky. Anytime you have unprotected sex, you risk pregnancy.  The highest risk of pregnancy is during the second and third weeks of the menstrual cycle. A woman who has unprotected sex has about a 20% chance of pregnancy every month.

Emergency contraceptive pills work best if taken within 72 hours of intercourse. Please see this article written for the EmpowHER community to learn more about how they work:

How Does Emergency Contraception Work?

Hope this is helpful and gives you some peace of mind, thanks again for reaching out for information.

Best,

Pam
