Hello anonymous and thanks for bringing your concerns to EmpowHER.

Emergency contraception pills are very safe and do not cause abortion or harm future fertility. Side-effects are uncommon and generally mild.

They are, however, for emergency use, and not for use as a regular birth control method. According to the World Health Organization: "
Emergency contraceptive pills are for emergency use only and are not appropriate for regular use as an ongoing contraceptive method because of the higher possibility of failure compared with non-emergency contraceptives. In addition, frequent use of emergency contraception can result in side-effects such as menstrual irregularities, although their repeated use poses no known health risks."

It's concerning that you say you had unprotected sex because of your boyfriend's "force." Forcing a woman to have sex against her will is rape and is not okay. If you need to please seek the services of a rape counseling center or other trusted counselor so that you do not end up in another "force" situation having unprotected sex again. There are many dangers beyond an unwanted pregnancy that can result from forced sex.

Good luck to you,

Pam
