Hello bayshr,

Thank you for reaching out to the EmpowHER community and for sharing your question!

Based on the information you gave me, it sounds like what they thought was a cyst, was actually a swollen lymph node. I would call the doctor that ordered the ultrasound and have him or her interpret and explain the results of the ultrasound to you. I don't necessarily think you need a second opinion, but more importantly some clarification from your doctor. Otherwise, you are just going to be left feeling uninformed and confused.

Our lymph nodes- there are many throughout the body- perform a lot of important functions. They are part of the immune system, helping us fight infection and viruses, and they help drain excess fluid and waste. There can be a lot of reasons why one might be swollen.

One of the most common is infection. Again, I would call your doctor and ask for a more thorough explanation of the findings.

In the meantime, here's the Mayo Clinic page on swollen lymph nodes. Be sure to note the things you can click on down the left side such as Symptoms, Causes, Treatments and drugs, Lifestyle & home remedies:

Bayshr, did this help?

Best,

Kristin
