Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us for help with this serious situation.

Was this the first month that you have had a prolonged period? Prior to this, were your menstrual cycles regular? Are you taking any medications, prescription or over-the-counter? Have you been diagnosed with any medical condition? Do you have a family history of any medical conditions?

When was your last pelvic exam and Pap smear? How heavy is the flow? How often are you changing a tampon or sanitary pad? What color is the blood? How big are the clots? Are the clots solid or do they break up?

Anonymous, you must be evaluated by your gynecologist or primary care physician, who will ask these and other questions, obtained a medical history, do a physical exam, and order blood tests to determine the cause of your prolonged period.

Regards,
Maryann
