Hello Carolead,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community and thank you for sharing your nightmarish experience.

MRI contrast agents are used to improve the visibility of internal body structures in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). They shorten the relaxation times of atoms within body tissues where they are present after oral or intravenous administration.

Sections of the body are exposed to a very strong magnetic field, then a radiofrequency pulse is applied causing a tip of the net magnetization generated from hydrogen nuclei, which are mostly water protons. Signal can then be detected.

Carolead, the contrast dye would have provided a better visualization of your brain. From my personal experience with brain cancer and breast cancer, my physicians always order a MRI with and without contrast.

Your nightmare sounds like a case of malpractice either in properly associating MRI results to correct patient or misinterpretation of the MRI by the first neurologist.

Keep fighting,
Maryann
