The first thing to do to prevent scaring is not to pick or peel the scab. Allow it to flake off on its own.
After it flakes off keep it protected form the sun by using sunscreen or simply covering that area whenever in the sun light.
Also putting a sheet of silicon gel in the area every day is also very effective.
In general however keeping the area moisturized is what keep a scar from forming, this includes oils, lotions, aloe vera gel, and moisturizers.
