Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for seeking our help with your questions about Postinor 2.

Postinor 2 is 95% effective in preventing pregnancy when taken within 24 hours of unprotected intercourse. It works by preventing ovulation. However, in your case, you took the pill after you ovulated. The pill also works by changing the cervical mucus to make it more difficult for sperm to reach and fertilize the egg.

You will know it worked once you have vaginal bleeding. If this does not happen within 3 weeks of taking the pill, you should test for pregnancy.

Changes to the menstrual cycle is one reported side effect. Some women start their periods earlier or later than expected, but only by about five days.

Postinor 2 and all emergency contraceptives are not intended to be used as a form of birth control. As the name implies, only for emergencies.

Regards,
Maryann
