Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. The constant hormone levels which result from taking a daily active pill are how this happens. Missing the last active dose before the inactive pills should not have caused ovulation and thus the risk for pregnancy.
The sure way to know is if you have vaginal bleeding during your pill-free week.
