The pull out method is a very unreliable method of birth control. By going one month without oral contraceptives causes changes in the balance of hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle.
Birth control pills prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation. No egg is released. Taking a daily hormone containing pills keeps hormone levels constant. During the placebo week, the hormone levels drop and the uterine lining is shed. This is called break through bleeding and it is not a real period.
Consider talking with your gynecologist about all of this.
