I'm not sure why your doctors refuse to test you for Cushing's. But I strongly suggest that you demand to be tested for it. It is the only way to rule out that possibility.
The other possibility is Hypothyroidism. Rapid and unexplainable weight gain is one of the first signs that your hormones have gone awry.
Doctors will usually suggestion having your thyroid gland removed. However this is not always necessary unless its cancerous. There are hormonal therapy treatment available as well as herbal treatments that often work better than traditional medicine.
I highly suggest that your doctors explore both Cushing's and Hypothyroidism extensively.
