Guide

HI Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

Below I've included some information about what you can generally expect for the surgery and post surgery.

  • The surgery is usually done as an out patient procedure. It can take from one to two hours and can be done under general anesthesia or they can numb you from the waist down. The anesthetic type will depend on your preference as well as on the suggestion of the surgeon. You will be placed in the lithotomy position (lying down on your back with your legs fairlyelevated in holsters called stirrups). A catheter is then placed into the bladder so that it can act as a guide tothe urethral surgery.
  •  Post surgery it is normal for you to feel a sense ofurgency to urinate. This is from the procedure and from the presence of the catheter. In mostpatients this goes away within a couple of hours, but could last until the catheter is removed. Absorbable (self-dissolving) sutures are used so there are no sutures to remove and should fall out or dissolve on their own within 2-3 weeks.

I hope this helps.
