Guide

Hello and thank you for choosing EmpowHer,
I highly suggest that you get a pap smear/pelvic exam as soon as possible to rule out any serious causes.
Serious causes include:
-Failure of the ovaries (female sex organs that hold eggs)
-Problems in the pituitary gland (a gland in the brain that makes hormones involved in menstruation)
-Hormonal imbalance due to polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
-Thyroid gland disorder

Less serious causes:
-Stress
-Poor nutrition
-Depression
-Certain drugs
-Extreme weight loss
-Over-exercising
-Ongoing illness
-Sudden weight gain or being very overweight (obesity)

Be sure to discuss all these possibilities with your doctor. Keep in mind that sometimes absent periods do not indicate any serious issues at all.
Also keep in mind that doctors are quick prescribe birth control pills as a quick fix to absent periods. If you doctor prescribes birth control without first giving an examination to find all possible causes, find a new doctor!! Never submit to a treatment before having an examination to find the cause.
