Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for seeking our help with your concern about a period lasting for 13 days.

Has this ever happened before? Has the flow been heavy every day? Are you now seeing dark discharge, which is old blood?

Anonymous, doctors consider normal menstrual bleeding a period that lasts from three to seven days; prolonged menstrual bleeding, or menorrhagia, is defined as bleeding that goes beyond a week. Long menstruation may be a condition that can be easily controlled with birth control hormones or one that indicates a serious underlying health issue.

I suggest you contact your gynecologist. If you do not have one, contact your primary care physician and schedule an appointment. Your doctor will make a diagnosis after performing a series of tests.

Regards,
Maryann
