Hello and welcome to EmpowHer,

Ovarian cysts can cause the following symptoms:
abdominal bloating or swelling
painful bowel movements
pelvic pain before or during the menstrual cycle
painful intercourse
pain in the lower back or thighs
breast tenderness
nausea and vomiting

Cysts can go away by themselves, they can grow, or become cancerous, or rupture. Since there are several things that can happen with cysts, doctors usually keep an eye on cysts to make sure they do not grow or become cancerous. If they do grow, usually doctor recommend they be removed with surgery. If they become cancerous, the process can be more complex. If the cyst does not grow, usually its not a problem for them to go untreated. It is important that she have at least annual check ups to make sure the cyst remains harmless.
